08 Mar Tips to escape! A beginners guide to escaping the room!
Never been to an escape game? Do you want to be better than the others? Here are some tips to escape the room like a pro!
If you’re hungry for a quests or just looking for a unique activity to spend quality time with your friends or family, you must try live escape rooms. Besides the competition, exit games are real fun, a memory to remember for good. If you’re following these few steps which we gathered for you, hopefully you won’t be disappointed. Let’s start!
All exit games are designed to show less at first sight than they really contain. Of course, everyone knows that you have to search for clues, but in reality, it’s just not as easy as it seems. Note that everything could be a clue or a part of the puzzle, so keep a close eye on every little detail.
It’s not a necessity but a must to touch, move and investigate everything. Open, lift, look behind all the objects for hidden clues and items. If it doesn’t work for a smaller effort, please do not force it. You shouldn’t cause any damage in the room or yourselves.
In many rooms the organizers put a sticker in everything what is not part of the game. So what do you do when you see a heater panel with no sticker? You guessed right, you try to move it, because there might be a hidden box beside!
DIVIDE AND CONQUER
Even psychological tests show that those teams who communicate more are more successful and complete the rooms much faster. Everyone should know about all the clues. If you have found something, shout it out. If you have cleared the bookshelf and did not found anything, make it clear to your teammates. You don’t want anybody else to check the self again!
The more players, the more opinions to solve the mystery. Try to be as logic as you can, think deductively and communicate all your ideas to the others. Simple words just happen to be solutions. Don’t hide your ideas, what sounds strange at first might be the exact logic what the creators had in mind.
USE THE TOOLS YOU HAVE
Most of the escape rooms do not require you to use external devices and items, such as mobile phone, camera, pen and paper. In most escape rooms they are even forbidden – unless they provide it for you.
Look around and search for items you can use not just as a clue, but to find a clue. Lasers and other lights are highly preferred by escape room designers. Once you find a suspiciously flat and empty surface there always must be a UV lamp to light there.
Numbers could be tricky. Obviously once you got a lock coded or other numbers to set in order there’s no question what to do. But pay attention to paired or multiple item. Usually they have no other function than indicating the numbers you need.
Also, don’t forget to collect all the numbers in one place and dismiss the ones that you have already used for example to open a lock.
CHECK THE CLOCK
Since all the escape games’ main aim is to get out of the room in time and beat the clock, you always have to check how much time you have left. There is no shame in asking for help. Before you get trapped in the room the escape room’s game master will tell you all the rules initially, one of them is how much hint you can take.
Once you got stuck on a puzzle the game master will help you anyway, but it’s better to not wait that much long. Remember that you will be able to show off with your time on Escape-rooms.com Facebook page! 🙂
FOCUS ON FUN
This is our last but most important advice: besides being enthusiastic, most of the first time exit game players are worried about that they are not clever enough to complete the challenge. But those who really enjoy and let themselves immerse into the game perform better. Intelligence and prior knowledge don’t matter during the game but fun-seeker attitude and co-operation do.
